Dartmoor is a high moorland area formed on a bed of granite.
Most of Dartmoor is now a national park. It forms a
plateau 956 sq Km in area. Over half the region is around 300
meters above sea level making it the highest and largest of the
moorland areas in southwest England. The moor is noted for its
wild aspect. Its tors are the rugged blocks of bare
granite which crown its loftier points |

This Fire Burns All Year Long at the Warren House Inn Dartmoor
National Park Devon England We were surprised to see an open
fire burning in August The story goes as follows The present pub
building was constructed in 1845 At that time the New House Inn
stood on the opposite side of the road When it was destroyed by
fire in the 19th century the publican took some embers from the
smouldering ruin and kindled a fire in the hearth of a building
opposite This fire has not been allowed to go out at any time
since and still warms customers summer and winter whatever the
weather. |
